An Open Letter to the Systems Community

In August 1992, a small systems engineering company was born just outside of Washington, DC with the vision of improving tools and practices for the systems engineering profession. In the nineteen years since, we have seen significant changes – consolidation across the defense industry; the shifting emphasis and emergence of new topics such as re-engineering, architecture frameworks, systems of systems, and model-based systems engineering (MBSE); and an ever-changing landscape of vendors supporting the systems domain. Vitech has changed as well, ever expanding the capabilities of our CORE® product line and broadening our vision from systems engineering software to solutions-based offerings of software, services, and training. Through it all, our focus has remained constant. Vitech remains dedicated to the systems domain, focused on the development and application of innovative systems approaches to solve the systems challenges of today and tomorrow.

As we begin our 20th year serving the systems community, we approach perhaps the biggest day in our history. On October 12, we have the pleasure of launching three new products as part of our Insight 2011 User Group event just outside of Washington, DC:

  • CORE 8.0, the latest version of our flagship product line. Described by some who have seen it as “groundbreaking” and “the biggest transformation in CORE’s history”, we believe CORE 8.0 truly unlocks the power of MBSE. Combining our historical strengths of an integrated, model-driven architecture with the usability demanded of modern software, version 8.0 redefines CORE. It delivers the user experience of a technical drawing package to complement the power of a model-driven solution, accelerating system development to think-speed. It redefines communications and analysis by delivering rich and robust representations – substance with style, your information your way direct from CORE. And it lowers the barrier of entry to MBSE, aiding the engineer through automated model assistance.
  • GENESYS™ 1.0, the first release of our next-generation product line. Long anticipated, GENESYS leverages our heritage in integrated, model-based approaches, taking the lessons learned from CORE and recasting them into an entirely new product line. Built from the ground up around industry-standard technologies, an open architecture, and a scalable infrastructure, GENESYS is a flexible platform to drive complete systems designs with lower risk across the enterprise. Delivering end-to-end essential MBSE support with full traceability from requirements analysis through architecture and V&V, GENESYS enables highly connected systems engineering for the enterprise.
  • The 2nd edition of our MBSE Primer laying out the foundations of models, model-based systems engineering, and our layered methodology (newly named STRATA™ to emphasize the strategic layers approach). This mindset of integration and strategic layers – what many will recall described as “peeling the onion” – is at the heart of everything we do. As we continue to build upon this foundation, we’re pleased to release the expanded 2nd edition of our elementary principles following closely on the heels of the initial release earlier this year.

We are certainly excited about all that this integrated launch has to offer. As you learn more about these releases, I hope you share our excitement for the opportunities that these products unlock and the value they bring to the systems challenges we face today.

Far more than a product launch, our Insight 2011 User Group event represents a special opportunity for us – gathering with colleagues and peers…sharing lessons learned with users from across our community…discussing the application, challenges, and future of MBSE with practitioners and leaders from across the industry. If you haven’t already made your arrangements, I hope you will register today to join us at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, Virginia on October 12 to be part of this special event. I promise it will be well worth the time.

As we look forward to our 20th year as proud members of the systems community, I want to thank you for all your support throughout the years. We wouldn’t be here today without the support of so many colleagues, champions, and friends from across the industry. Those who know me know that my roots run deep in the systems domain, both literally and figuratively, and there is nowhere I would rather be. We look forward to building upon the strong Vitech foundation and continuing to serve you and our community for the next twenty years to come.
